* Even before liberalisation, Finnet Group was the main competitor for the former monopolist Sonera for fixed lines telephony on the local level. Today Sonera and Finnet compete with one another in all market segments of fixed lines' and mobile telecommunications services. Radjolinja is part of the Finnet Group.
** Greece was one of those member states which were given more time to implement deregulation. While Luxemburg, Ireland and Portugal have liberalised the telecommunications sector by now, Greece has not opened the fixed lines' market for potential competitors to the incumbent OTE.
*** In Portugal the telecommunications market has only been liberalised since Jan. 2000. PT claims that it still held 99% market share in the fixed lines' market by the end of the first half year of 2000. Oni, Novis, Jazztel und Maxitel are the main new entrants on the market, but due to the short time passed since liberalisation and relatively samll client numbers, it was not possible to find out which one of the companies might be the main competitor for PT.
