COPEC at the Economic and Social Committee**
The COPEC of the ESOC is in office ever since 1997. The committee exercises its mandate with the aim to propose all measures required to implement Equal Opportunities (EO) the personnel of the ESOC, in particular for women and men.The COPEC proposes actions to make EO a reality in the internal structures of the institution, especially through sensitising measures, education and training, career development and social infrastructures. The committee is partner in all questions of EO to both the administration and all staff.
Concerning proposals, modifications, abrogation of texts in relation to personnel, the COPEC may co-operate with any other joint committee of ESOC in order to assure appropriate gender monitoring and compliance with relevant directives, recommendations and community regulations.
To be in a position to accomplish its mandate the COPEC receives all necessary information of the administration.
The COPEC is free to invite any resource person to its meetings.
The most recent action taken by COPEC was an initiative (March 1998) pushing for equal treatment of non-married heterosexual as well as homosexual couples concerning access to so far exclusive advantages of married couples.
